Hence, the question of whether the Nifty and the stocks contained therein are Investors who closely keep an eye on correlation to hedge their portfolio would be increasing their weightage to the IT and defensive stocks such as Kotak Mahindra, HDFC Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra and Asian Paints. IT and select defensive stocks have typically outperformed the Nifty during the period of Rupee depreciation. NYSE and SGX are stock exchanges in different countries while Nifty 50 is an index and there is no correlation between them. Nifty futures are traded on the SGX as SGX Nifty and since the Singapore Exchange opens before the NSE in India, SGX Nifty levels are taken as reference to determine the opening of Nifty in the Indian domestic markets. Trading on the NYSE usually has an effect on the markets world-over, so, the closing levels at the NYSE also tend to have an effect on global market Banknifty indices follow nifty50 index.
